shuffling

When I was little one of my favorite things to do was play office. I would gather my important papers, shuffle them into stacks, and then when they were nicely organized I'd un-shuffle them so I could repeat the process: gather, shuffle, sort, un-shuffle, repeat.

Now that I am all grown up (real office, real papers and everything) shuffling is like going to the dentist; you hate to do it but occasionally it's necessary. But (d. reeves to the rescue) if you must do something, and there is just no way out of it, you might as well do it cute. Enter the Style File; not only does it make my shuffling bearable, it makes my rag tag magazine culling actually look, well, stylish!

This pendant was made with the white acrylic circle pendant and a basic grey rub-on. Super, super easy and super, super cute!

And below is a very belated thank you gift I made with the 3x5 clear album. Here are a few of the pages.

Each page has a gift card with a small piece of paper tucked in behind for journaling. Once the gift card is removed, the journaling card will fill it's spot.

We thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's favorite desserts. Our family dessert days will never be the same thanks to all of your suggestions. Take a look at the comments and perhaps you will find some delicious inspiration for yourself.

We are a big fan of brownies and ice cream for dessert.

This brownie was topped with chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and Reese's peanut butter sauce. Is your mouth watering?

Have you ever watched yourself eat with a live video...it is a little weird. We were shooting for a great photo of us enjoying the dessert. There was lots of laughing.

Thursday Giveaway Delay

So, like Diane said in the previous post, we have been experiencing some sickness in the Reeves house this week. First, it was Stella with a fever and me with some kind of crazy 48 hour (and counting) sinus headache. Now, Diane and Emma are suffering from a fever that seems to create in them a desire only for sleeping.

Because of our most unfortunate state, we will be delaying the giveaway originally planned for today. We have not, however, delayed dessert day.

Half of the Reeves are sick. Poor Stella has a high fever and Jeremy has a terrible migraine this evening. Everyone is asleep and the house is quiet tonight. I have so much creative energy, I want to go cut and paste and start something new, but darn it, I have a pile of receipts that must be dealt with for our taxes. We have never waited until April to finish taxes, and ahem, we would probably have them done, if I had been a little more organized when d. reeves design house began last year. It is SO much more fun to organize other things though, like my inspiration style file and the girls Christmas ornaments. I worked on both projects this past weekend. I will have to share pictures of the Style File in another post, Jeremy has the camera as his office at the moment.

I am off to shuffle receipts...have a good evening.

Thursday Giveaway!

I love Thursdays; they feel like Friday because Jeremy has Fridays off. We have the girls tucked in bed, a movie came in the mail yesterday...time to relax. My type of relaxing usually involves multitasking. We plan to watch a movie tonight and I think, "Great now I can sort that stack of papers that have been piling up." I am working on organizing all my magazine pull-outs into my Style File this weekend. I probably won't finish, but that's okay; at least I will get started and share my progress with you.

Husband in the Blog-House Give Away

Hello everyone,
I'm the "j" in "d. reeves design house"; Diane's husband, Jeremy. Diane has been extremely busy the past couple of weeks, especially keeping up with our little busy bees. They are very creative, and very energetic, and we love 'em so much, and sometimes they make us down-right crazy. So in this more-active-than-usual season, Diane asked me to post a post...so, here I am, posting.

Part of the extreme busy-ness is due to the enthusiastic response to our new products: the addition of pink and white to our album line up, and also the introduction of two new products, the Style File and Mini Style File. And, of course, when you have new stuff, what better way to celebrate than to give some of it away? This give away will be a Mini Style File in the color of your choosing: pink, white or clear.

I thought I would share another close up of a project we featured in our new products post.

My gift guide, created using my clear Mini Style File.

My gift guide is a place to jot down gift ideas for family and friends, as well as what gifts we have given to them in the past.

So, I created 5 page dividers using cardstock and adhesive divider labels.

Here are my categories:
-Us
-My family
-J's family
-Friends
-Teachers ( I may broaden this category in the future, but for now I will stick with this)

I have 3 sheets of notebook paper per person, Birthday, Christmas and Other Holidays.
I put the year and the gift given. I will use sticky notes for jotting down my gift ideas for each person.

Pretty simple. I put mine together in the car while we are on a short road trip a few weekends ago.

In my last post I shared my Patterns Book. I used my white 4x6.5 album. I love the simple, modern cover in contrast with the variety of patterns on the inside. It is such an easy book to make, plus, it is a great place to stash bits of your favorite papers or fabric and experiment with combining different patterns.

Here is my book below. I will continue to add pages to my book as I find more patterns that I love.

New Products...

Happy New Year! or should I say Happy Valentines day. I have been busy making samples to show off our new products this year. I hope you like them. Below is what we included in Scrapbook.com newsletter for CHA 2008

d. reeves design house has gone color! We are so excited to introduce two great colors to our existing clear acrylic line. First, we have a vibrant dusty pink. This colored acrylic reminds us of that great vintage glass tile you find in cute cottage homes. Next, we added a wonderful white color. This clean opaque acrylic color makes the perfect background for bold prints, and its modern feel is just right for showing off you black and white photos.

These two new colors come in all our current sizes, and are available in two new shapes! What new shapes? Well, not only have we gone color; d. reeves design house is also getting down to business. We know that we all want to be organized, but we want to do it with style, right? So we are introducing our Style File and Mini Style File. The Style File, a perfect replica of that iconic manilla folder, works brilliantly for ordering all of your design ideas. The Mini Style File, measuring 8.5" x 5.5", is a real multi-tasker. We use one of ours as a day planner, and another one as a gift idea guide: anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, all in one place! Both of the Style Files are, of course, very cute as albums as well. And both are available in pink, white and clear.

Here are a few pics of our new Style Files and Mini Style Files in pink and white, followed by some examples of how we've used our new products:

Fill the Style File full of manila file folders like I did, you are sure to stay organized.

Here I used some paper from Cavallini and Co. and some transparency for the back of the clear Style File.

I made a gift idea notebook with the clear Mini Style File. I used some fabulous vintage inspired paper and a custom label. Here I can brainstorm ideas and keep track of what we give friends and family year after year.

Happy hearts and our cute pink 1.5" square pendants were used to make this festive banner. I used permanent ink to stamp the letter on each pendant. I attached them to the hearts with jump rings.

My daughter's favorite color is pink, so I made here a pink book using our 4x6.5 pink album. I filled it up with pretty pink papers, flowers and other pink items.

This is a little 3x3 clear mini album housing some of my favorite photos of our girls. I used book binding taper to attach the pages to the cover, rather than the standard binder ring.

A book of patterns. I am always inspired by design and patterns. For this book, I used our white 4x6.5 acrylic album. It is a perfect plact to experiment with mixing and matching colors and patterns; a new take on the art journal!

A lovely gift for a friend expecting a baby girl. I layered some painted chipboard letters over the transparency and, voila!, a quick, stylish gift. I put 12 calendar pages inside so the new mom can keep track of all her baby's firsts.

This book is a combination of our clear 3x5 and pink 3x5. I put the damask sticker on the clear cover. Then I added a printed transparency behind it, followed by one piece of the pink 3x5 album. Thick, sturdy and fabulous.

I made this shadow box with our clear 6x6 album, graph paper, butterfly stickers and book binding tape. Our version of a specimen box.

I cut the silhouettes of the girls out of photo paper and attached them to the 6x6 white album and our white pendants for a modern take on a classic piece.

I love making signs with the clear 8x8. I attached the paper with spray adhesive and the glitter letters with glue dots.

Christmas Cheer!

A 6x6 album with a bunch of fun pages inside. I used a card from Target for the first page, some more cards, transparencies, card stock and felt make up the rest of the pages.

This sign is made from a piece of my 12x12 album. The sturdiness is perfect for signs. The snowflake is a fabulous ornament from Target.

I experimented with this album. I used 7gypsies book binding tape to connect the album covers. I rotated the album so the binder ring hole is in the top right hand corner, and a little rhinestone peaks through.

A cute little bag tag made from my 3x3 album. It works great because it is so thick and sturdy. I used double stick tape to attach the paper to the back. It made a great affect with the lines from the tape.

I am thrilled that Ikuko Kinuta, one of the Creating Keepsakes Japan editors, created a fabulous mini album using our 4x6.5 clear acrylic album. Ikuko was so kind to send me a copy of the magazine. It will be a wonderful keepsake from this amazing journey that began less than a year ago.

I created this album for a fund raiser at Emma's preschool. Each class puts together a basket to be auctioned off. The theme for her class's basket was dog lovers. I think the papers are SEI and Creative Imaginations...but I am not certain. Stickers are 7gypsies stickers and Autumn Leaves. Also, the layout of the pages were inspired/copied from an album made by my mother-in-law. She made an adorable Christmas album out of the 4x6.5. I hope to be able to share photos of it soon.

We are so excited that Kristina Contes chose our 4x6.5 album for the August Cocoa Daisy kit. I can't wait to get my kit. They go on sale August 1. I can't wait to see the design team gallery. Jeremy and I watched many movies while putting these albums together. Thankfully, we recently joined Blockbuster Total Access. Love it, but I can't understand how do they make any money.

I taught a class at Crop, Paper, Scissors in June. We made a 6x6 album and used one of my favorite techniques where we paint the inside of the front cover. This time we taped off a little 3x3 square with painters tape. It made a little window to see the first page of the album. It was so fun, I had a great time with the ladies who took the class.

Here is a very cool idea for the 8x8 clear acrylic albums. My mother-in-law made these two, part of a set of four.

She adhered the Heidi Swapp mask onto the acrylic album and simply painted over it with acrylic craft paint, then she placed patterned paper behind it. Don't you love it!

This will be a quick post, I wanted to share some more photos of samples I have made using the clear acrylic products. Below are two pendants I made for display at Crop, Paper , Scissors here in Waco.

Here are a few pictures of an album I did for my girls. The back of the album is made up of an 8 x 8 piece and the cover of the album is a 4 x 6.5 piece. Very fun to mix up the sizes of albums. Thanks for looking!

Our Products

The albums are currently available in 4 different sizes, 8x8, 6x6 and 4x6.5 and 3x3. The pendants come 4 to a package and are 1.5 inches square. Each piece of acrylic is 1/8" wide and is covered with a protective brown paper on both sides that can easily be peeled off when ready to use.

Thought I would share some fun pictures from this past Monday night when we were getting the first order ready to deliver. All of the acrylic products come with a protective brown paper on both sides. Whenever you are ready to use the product just peel off the protective paper and let those creative juices flow!

I wanted to share some samples of my acrylic scrapbook albums. The first one is an 8 x8 album. One of my favorite features on this sample is that you can see every page through the cover. My inspiration was a quilt block. I continued the pattern of the circles on the turquoise paper onto the acrylic with a white gel pen.

The 8 x 8 albums are perfect for home decorations. The great thing is you can make 2 different signs with one album. Below are some samples I used the same technique on both signs. Attach the paper to the back of the acrylic with spray adhesive. Wrap ribbon around the front and back of the sign. Then attach letters to the front. I used Glue Dots for "Happy Easter" and Diamond Glaze for "Be Mine." I love how they turned out.

I also carry 1 1/2 in. square pendants. They come in a package of four and would make great gifts. I used spray adhesive to attach the paper to the back of the acrylic.

6 x 6 album
Another great technique to use on the acrylic is paint. I painted the back of the album cover with acrylic paint then sealed it with modge podge. I really think it comes out looking like a retro glass tile. Then I stamped the circles with Staz On ink on the front. I attached the butterfly with glue dots.

The First Order

Good News everyone, d.reeves design house received our first order for all three sizes of our clear acrylic albums and the clear acrylic pendents. On Tuesday, March 27, I delivered the first order to my local scrapbook store, Crop, Paper, Scissors.

The night before delivery was very busy. We took some fun pictures of us putting all the order together. Check out the cute logo Jeremy designed for me.

In the next few days I plan to post some pictures of our products for you to be able to purchase. I am still working on getting a shopping cart set up. We will also share photos of several of our samples, as well as some tips for using the acrylic products, and more ideas. So check back soon!
